FAQs : APPLICATION PROCESS
-
Why register your support?
One of the criteria on the application to ICANN is to show community support for the domain name. We need to demonstrate to ICANN that Scots want their own top level domain name.
Obtaining over 50,000 names of support will clearly demonstrate the community support for the dotSCOT bid.
If you haven't yet done so yourself, please register your support.
-
When will the names be available?
The earliest application date to ICANN is December 2009. The application process can take a number of months to complete. After delegation, we would look to start the sunrise period. This will probably be in 2010 or 2011.
If you have registered support for the campaign, we will send you an email to let you know when names are available to purchase.
Also, if you sign up to receive our e-newsletter, we will keep you informed of our progress throughout the campaign and beyond.
-
How will you check that only valid applications are received?
The processes are not yet fully defined. Once there is more information, we will issue them in detail on this site.
Our goal is to automate as much of the validation as possible as this will help us to keep our costs down and therefore our prices, thus making the domain names available to more Scots.
